What is Motbots?

Motbots is a combination of the words “Motivated” and “Robotics“. Motbots is Motivated Robotics. Invoking motivation about robotics and electronics is one of many reasons why Motbots was created.

The goals of Motbots are many. One such goal is to make robotics and electronics fun and interesting. When we think of robots, we all think of iconic and lovable robots we see in movies and TV, that we wish were real. We don’t want to only fantasize of a world of robots fathomable in imagination — we want to make a lively world of them real and part of our every day lives.

Another goal of Motbots is to get people motivated to make robots that are useful and personable, as well as to make them easily accessible to the world — so people can build their own, put their own personalities in them, and make them the way they would want their own robots to be!

👋 Hi! My name is Dustin. I am the creator of Motbots — and also the guy writing this whole page. Motbots was created as a personal ambition to make robotics easily accessible, understandable and ubiquitous in the world. I strive to make concise, clear, and easily understandable instructions to all — to be doing what we, as modern humans should be doing, building robots!

Q: What makes you (Dustin) an authority figure in robotics and electronics?

🤷‍♂️ Nothing, really. I have no degree in engineering and no industry experience in building robots or working in electronics. I’m not an expert in electronics and am certainly not an expert in the fields of robotics and engineering. I guess you can say that I might just be a regular fool out here in the world trying to make stuff and share stuff without no real traditional background, at all.

Who is Dustin?

Well, my name is Dustin. Like I said, I am the creator of Motbots. I create everything you see here on Motbots’s site and all its socials. I’m the loner, doing it all — just me.

I’m a curious Texan who loves building robots, fiddling with electronics, tinkering with embedded systems, and spending time outdoors. I earned my B.S. in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics (whatever that means), and took courses in electronics and computer programming. I also spent time in other community colleges across Texas over the span of many years taking several computer-aided drafting, electronics, and computer programming courses. During my time at university I flew a drone I built myself over livestock to study their behavior for ag-tech research — if any of that counts towards my “authority”.

Q: Why should I listen to you?

😐 You don’t have to, if you don’t want to. There’s way more knowledgeable and skilled people out there, than I. What I have to offer is a deep interest and passion in electronics and robotics. If you feel the same, then we are the same, in that regard!

I may not be an expert, but I have been tinkering with electronics for well over a decade at this point, and have loved every minute of it to the point that I wanted to learn more and share what I’ve learned to the world! That’s really the secret reason why I created Motbots — it’s so I can learn more by doing the things I share here. 🤫 Shhh, don’t tell anyone.

I will most certainly make mistakes, and I hope to learn from them and from you! That’s really what Motbots is about. Being motivated to do the work, to learn, and to be curious — to learn from each other, to encourage each other, and to have fun doing it!

What’s The Purpose of Motbots?

Motbots is where curiosity meets creativity! Motbots’s mission, and therefore my ambition, is to empower individuals interested in the exciting fields of electronics and robotics. As the representative of Motbots — we can think of Motbots as an entity — believe that the best way to learn is by doing, which is why we encourage our community to engage both their hands and minds in crafting innovative projects.

At Motbots, we are dedicated to educating and inspiring learners of all ages. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, our resources are designed to help you dive into the world of electronics and robotics. We offer a variety of tutorials, guides, and hands-on projects that not only teach foundational skills but also foster problem-solving abilities.

🩷 We are passionate about open-source collaboration. Our goal is to create projects that everyone can access and modify, allowing for a community-driven approach to learning and innovation. By sharing knowledge and resources, we hope to inspire you to create electronics and robotics devices that are not just functional, but also inspiring and useful.

Our goal is to make robots and to share how to make them to the world. We strive to make concise, clear, and easily understandable instructions to all — to be doing what we, as modern humans should be doing, building robots!
